I love dandelions! What most people think is a weed is one of THE most amazing plants you can have in your yard.
Their bright yellow flower in bloom gives you sunshine for the soul, even on a cloudy day!
When their petals fall away and transform into fluffy seeds, you can close your eyes, make a wish and BLOW!
Dandelions are a “beneficial weed” — meaning it has many uses.
I don’t like the word “weed” per se, as it infers it’s a bad plant to the minds of so many.
Did you know it’s taproot helps bring up nutrients for shallower rooting plants?
Or that the dandelion adds minerals and nitrogen to the soil in your yard?
Beneficial, yes. Weed? No, I don’t think so.
And they are edible, too!
Blanche the leaves to take away the bitterness and add them to your next salad!
“Dandelion leaves contain abundant vitamins and minerals, especially vitamins A, C and K, and are good sources of calcium, potassium, iron and manganese.” — taken right from Wikipedia’s Dandelion page.
Well, I did.
You can also make wine, teas, coffee and even rootbeer with Dandelions!
Pretty amazing plant this so-called “weed” is!
Today, I am sharing an AWESOME photograph taken by a photographer I recently was introduced to on Facebook! She takes amazing photos and has a fantastic talent of manipulating them into beautiful works of art!
You can find Wanderlust Photography on Facebook. Tell her Gypsy sent you to admire, ooh and aaahhh over her yummy, delicious eye candy!!! <3 And don’t forget to like her page too!!!
Today is Memorial Day here in the United States.
Regardless of your thoughts on current or past events, I do ask that you take a few moments to honor our service men and women and their families (human and fur). We wouldn’t have the freedoms so many of us take for granted on a daily basis, if it were for these amazing heroes!
Wishing Everyone a Happy and Safe Memorial Day!
